The tough, reliable and easy to maintain KRONAN bicycle was first designed for the Swedish Army in 1942. Over sixty years later, these bikes have withstood the test of time.Made mainly of steel, they weigh 23kg, have wide mudguards, stainless steel wheels and the thickest stainless steel spokes in the business, durable balloon tyres and a solid luggage carrier. They are rustproof and galvanised at those points which are prone to wear.In 1996 Johan Wahlback, founder of KRONAN, discovered a supply of these sturdy bikes, stored in various warehouses in Sweden. Although they had been there for decades, they needed no servicing and were in perfect working order. Reasoning that they would appeal to students, Wahlback immediately bought them, loaded them onto a truck, and sold 300 bikes in two days. This was the start of KRONAN Cykel in Sweden, and since then the company has expanded throughout Europe and into the UK, Canada, the USA, and in June 2002, to New Zealand.
